Figuring out how to get started with social media for your small business can be difficult for some. Unlike your personal pages (if you have them) you simply cannot set up a Twitter, Facebook, or LinkedIn account and just wait for customers to flock to your site. As with any other aspect of your business, strategy, planning, and research are all important when it comes to a social media campaign. Here are two of our best tips for how to use social media for your small business:

Keep customer service in mind. Your social media campaign should be linked to every aspect of your company, from billing to product development. Incorporating all aspects of your company into your social media campaign keeps every aspect of your business as a part of your customers’ awareness. This increases trust, increases interest, and ultimately makes your company more “personable” to the average customer.

Use social media management. A quality program and company that manages your accounts for you, or allows you to spend an hour inputting that week’s posts and tweets, setting them to automatically go out on the days you want them to, saves you time and maintains consistency with your social media. Customers will quickly lose interest if you go a week or two between tweets or posts, and they’ll unfollow or defriend you if you’re constantly barraging them with information. Find a happy medium, and use a social media management system to keep everything dependable.

With us, you can be assured that your social media campaign is in good hands. From teaching you how to use social media for your small business to handling setting up, designing, and managing your accounts, we can make establishing your company’s online presence and reputation simple.

When you realize that your company needs to create a social media campaign, the initial setting up of the accounts and feeling your way around the social media culture online can be a bit daunting. However, a quality social media strategy coupled with a few starter tips can make the entire process easier. Here’s how to use social media for your small business.

Setting up your accounts: Ideally, you’ll want to do this all at once. Why? So that you can create a cohesive design across the board. Your Twitter should be linked to your Facebook, your Facebook to your LinkedIn, your Google + account to everything else. Essentially, if a customer moves from your Facebook to your Twitter, there should be no question that it’s the same company. By doing this all at once, you’re limiting the small differences and inconsistencies that scream “inexperienced.” As with anything you do, you want to project the image that your company is professional and knowledgeable.

Find followers: Brain storm different “keywords” that describe your customers. For example, an airline company would search for frequent fliers, travellers, pilots, etc. Run your searches through each social media site, and start requesting connections, friends, or begin following people. This increases your starting audience, which as you remain in consistent with updates and information, increases the amount of people that your message will get out to.

Determining update frequency: There’s a balance here: too much, and you’ll annoy your followers, too little and they’ll forget about you. Start with once every two to three days on each site, and play with the amount.

If you need help learning how to use social media or setting up your campaign and strategy, we can get you started and help to guide the way. Creating a quality reputation for your company via social media is essential to ensuring your company’s success; and with us, you’ll have the best start!

Videos are the latest craze when it comes to internet marketing, and for good reason. It satisfies the creativity and stimulation that the average customer wants, all while providing memorable information in the quick, easy to digest formula society craves. But how can videos for small business help your company?

Your customers expect it: People like videos, they want videos, and they expect website videos. In fact, a person is statistically more likely to watch your one minute promo video than they are to spend one minute reading content on your site.

SEO isn’t just for content anymore: Changes made to Google’s algorithm in 2012 made video a player in SEO. Considered part of visitor experience, the more “enjoyable” Google finds your site for the average user, the higher it’s going to rank.

Although incredibly beneficial, marketing with video isn’t exactly a walk in the park. Between hiring video producers, working within often tight budgets, and simply coming up with creative website videos can all weigh heavily on a small business, especially if you’re lacking in equipment or basic knowledge regarding production. And this is where we come in. With extensive knowledge in marketing with videos and helping small businesses build up their site in order to compete with the “big dogs,” we can help you create memorable, effective videos that help your site and your bottom line.

If you’re in business, you’re used to paperwork; and while some of it can certainly be redundant, writing a social media campaign helps you and your company to get everyone on one page, streamlining your social media strategy and making it work for your small business. While this information can be formatted and tweaked to suit your field, there are certain topics you need to cover. Here’s how to break it down:

In the introduction, include:

Why you doing this: You need to convince whoever is reading your social media strategy document that it’s actually going to work. Statistics, quotes from major publications, and industry examples of how social media has helped companies are all perfect. Do your research and be thorough.

Make it simple: If you’re writing a social media campaign, there’s a good chance that someone is going to read it who doesn’t understand exactly what it is. Spell it out for this reader, without making others feel like it’s a social media 101 course. How? Add a few facts that even those “in the know” might not know.

Then, proceed to:

Lay out the goals: This is where you really get into it. Detail exactly what you want this social media campaign to accomplish, from increasing brand awareness to driving new traffic.

Draw a map: You can’t list goals without giving the reader an idea of how you’re going to get there. This is the meat of your social media campaign, and is essentially detailing how you’ll use social media for your business. Timelines, delegation, and other details can be laid out here.

Finish it off by telling them what you need. Chances are you can’t start this new journey without backing, either with money or resources. Be realistic with what you need, and ask for it.

If you need help with your social media campaign, or are looking for one of the best social media experts for small businesses in the area, call us today to learn how we can help.

Website videos and promo videos are becoming the mode du jour in modern marketing, and rightly so. Marketing with videos allows you to meet several of your customers’ needs and wants all at once: the desire to see your product, the need to be convinced, and the drive to be instantly satisfied with information (rather than having to work for it). So how do you do it? With a qualified producer in hand and the right equipment, it’s all about the actual content of the video. So what exactly should you have in your videos for your small business?

Your product or service: Your customer (or potential customer) wants to know what exactly you’re selling. Whether it’s marketing, commercial-style video or just an informational one to add to your site, you need to ensure that your product is clear (without being “in-your-face”).

Make it interesting: You have to make people want to watch. And just like nobody’s going to go see a movie that looks boring, they aren’t going to watch your promo or website video if it looks uninteresting. As with any style of marketing, drawing the user into your videos for small business is essential.

Pay attention to the numbers: If the numbers say that your customers stop watching videos at the 4 minute mark, aim to make your content 4 minutes or less. If there are certain images or sequences that receive a lot of playback, take note of that and incorporate the same concepts into future website videos. Use the numbers provided via YouTube and similar services to your advantage.

If you really want to make your marketing with video effective, our video producers and experienced marketers can help. From finding the right angle for your company to creating exceptional content, we always have you covered.

Social media. You know you should use it and you know that your customers are (more and more) starting to expect it, yet you just don’t know exactly what to do with it. A quality, well-thought-out social media strategy can drastically increase your company’s visibility, and subsequently, its sales. Yet there’s a lot more involved in social media management than simply setting up a bunch of accounts across the board: the term “strategy” really is important here. With a management system that takes a lot of the work out of the equation and by staying on top of your click-through statistics, you can master how to use social media in no time!

Once you have your accounts set up, designed with your brand and company image, it’s time to set up a social media manager. A social media campaign can only be effective if it’s consistent across the internet, all while keeping basic marketing principles in mind. A social media management program can do all of this quickly and efficiently. These programs allow you to set up a posts, tweets, and updates all at once, and then spread them out over several days or weeks. They often provide click-through stats so that you can see what type of promotions and information is getting the best response, allowing you to slowly create a social media campaign that works for your specific company and the customers it wants to earn and keep.

As you’re staying consistent with your updates, find followers. Use keywords that describe your customer base (for example, if you provide text books, “teacher,” “professor,” and “instructor” are all good places to start) and search each social media site for people who might be interested in your product. By earning these followers, you’re not only getting your message out there, but you’re also increasing the chances that your posts and tweets will be shared with those followers’ followers. And the chain reaction begins!

With us, you can streamline the small business social media process with some of the most experienced marketers in the field today. Whether you need help getting set up or want someone to help you manage things full-time, we can deliver. Social media is changing the face of marketing: don’t get left behind!

Small business marketing is made up of two goals, both of which are equal in value: attracting new customers and retaining existing ones. No matter what platform you’re using, from mail-out flyers to marketing with videos, the emphasis should always be on how your current sales, services, or events are satisfying your customers’ need. For the most cost effective marketing possible, start with these three steps:

What do your customers need, and what do they want? To answer this, you can go as low-cost as in-store surveys or as advanced as hiring a researching firm. Start with who you believe your customer base to be, and then repeat this investigation into the new customers that you want to attract (if they differ from your current base).

Determine which market will be most profitable, and pinpoint the specific need of this group.

Tailor your marketing campaign towards that group and their specific needs.

The targeting portion of small business marketing is what hangs a lot of companies up, yet this is where small businesses really shine. The average person wants to go local, go with smaller, and go with someone who can provide more personalised care. So play on this! Target small business videos and other marketing tools by pinpointing the physical location of your current and desired customer base, focusing on three key elements of information: the product / service, price, and distribution.

These basic principles of small business marketing are where we excel. With extensive market research, a personalised approach to your business, and the experience needed to make your marketing campaign, in whatever form, successful, there’s a reason all of our customers are so satisfied with our services. Call us to learn more!

Here are a few tips to improve the performance of your website videos:

Keep it short and dynamic – less than 90 seconds. If you have lots of content, break larger web videos into bite size chunks.

Those first few seconds of your video are crucial in determining if your viewer will view the entire clip so make them count with engaging content.

Have a winning close that entices your potential client to visit your website for a special promotion/deal or offer.

Target your video towards your niche market.

Placement of your video on your site is very important – display it prominently as one of the first things your visitor sees when they arrive.

Do not set your video to autoplay – leave the choice to your visitor

Maintain your corporate identity throughout the video with visual colour schemes, logos and slogans. Find the balance here between advertising and entertainment.

Soundtrack – use one! Select something that is upbeat and energetic. Don’t forget royalties if you are using someone else’s music.

Syndicate your video out onto the web. Imagine, if you upload your video to 20 other websites, that’s another 20 pathways leading visitors to your website. Explore keywords that will work for you using the Google Adwords Keyword tool.

Your web video title also needs to be attention grabbing and meaningful to your visitors, so again, it’s a balance.

Enter your keywords into the metadata keywords of your video to make it easily indexable by the big search engines like Yahoo, MSN and of course, Google.

Include your website address in the description of your web video clip.

Measure results! It’s important to measure the results of your online video investment. Metrics you could measure include: visits to your site originating from video sharing sites, number of views, percentage of video viewed and in-store/online sales revenue. Google Analytics is a great free tool for measuring your website traffic and video sharing sites will also provide you with valuable statistics.

Seek feedback on your web video from viewers and incorporate that feedback into your future productions producing more targeted and valuable videos that meet the needs of your specific client niche.

Keep updating your website with new videos that add value to your clients incorporating online video into your long term marketing strategy.
